It all started in Sur la table. I was roaming about the store and came across the canning section. I have always wanted try it, but have always been a bit nervous about it. I decided to pick up a few of the basics; so I purchased the Progressive 3-Piece Canning Set; along with the Bormioli Quattro Stagioni Canning Starter Set. I already had a recipe in mind from my Pioneer Woman Cooks, cookbook; Canning 101 and Strawberry Jam. I love the way she breaks down her recipes with pictures. She makes things very plain and simple. The jars that I used from Sur la table were different than the ones The Pioneer Woman mentioned using; but I absolutely love the jars I picked. I found them much more easier to handle, and I will be purchasing more.
Well, the canning went pretty smooth. I only had one hiccup - maybe two...I am not sure yet. I had liquid pectin instead of the powdered kind, and there are small tiny bubbles in the jar. I am not so sure if that is okay or not. I Googled it, but I keep getting all kinds of answers. It's not a lot though, so I am satisfied. They are sitting on the counter now, and every time I walk past them I feel a great sense of accomplishment. I know canning will definitely be a part of my future. What about you; do you can?
